The Century Barn Story
The Century Barn rests on over 200 acres of surrounding land and provides a lovely blend of rustic charm and elegance, both inside the fully restored barn and across the fields. This scenic little haven is located just outside the town of Mt. Horeb, WI and only 30 minutes west of the state capitol of Madison.
The barn is nestled in the rolling hills of Dane County, overlooking picturesque open fields and a fragrant hops garden. With the hazy hills on the horizon, this immaculate setting is a gorgeous environment for any special event.
History of the Century Barn
Originally part of a dairy farm, the Century Barn had been sitting idle for a few years after regular dairy operations ceased in 1999. Our family then bought the barn in 2004.
The Century Barn was located on a different part of the property and in need of some urgent attention. The foundation was crumbling, and years of neglect were taking their toll. In order for the farm itself to continue operation, the barn was marked to be destroyed. Our original plan was to donate it to the Mt Horeb Fire Department for a demolition practice opportunity, but since so many people saw its inherent beauty, we decided to move it to a different location on the farm. With that in mind, the idea to save and restore the building was born.
To begin the process, we hired a company that specialized in moving entire buildings. They placed beams underneath and lifted the barn from its original foundation. A new foundation was laid across the field, and the team slowly and carefully drove the Century Barn across the farm to place it in its new home where it currently stands today.
In order to best share this beautiful, historic building with others, we decided to turn the Century Barn into an event venue. We worked hard to fully restore the barn and bring out the beauty and charm that it held inside. The first event we hosted was the wedding of our daughter and son-in-law. Since then we have hosted numerous weddings, seminars, corporate events, dances, receptions and more.
We’ve even hosted a number of special events such as the Field Days of the Reenactment Group Company K, in which the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment used the barn as a field hospital. School districts from around the area came out to enjoy these Field Days.
We’re excited to help others create their own special memories at the Century Barn and are looking forward to hosting many more events in the years to come.
